We do hope you will join us next Wednesday, 27 November, at the Matthiesen Gallery when Ariel Lanyi and Mihály Berecz will perform a programme of piano duets.
BACH – Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in B-flat, transcribed by Max Reger
SCHUBERT – Fantasie in F minor D940
SCHUBERT – Rondo in A major D951
SCHUMANN – Six Impromptus Bilder aus Osten (Pictures from the East) op.66
Robert Schumann composed Pictures from the East as a surprise Christmas present for his wife Clara in 1848. He was inspired by a classic work of Arabic literature about the adventures of a practical joker, Abu Said, who reminded him of Till Eulenspiegl, the mischievous rogue of German folklore. The impromptus are considered to be Schumann’s masterpiece of the piano-4-hands repertoire.
